The Ultimate Rental Checklist for an Anniversary Getaway

By Marni | Comfort By Marni

Every year, my husband and I carve out time to celebrate our wedding anniversary with a quiet escape. It doesn’t have to be extravagant or far from home—just somewhere peaceful where we can pause the daily hustle: kids, chores, work, and all the beautiful chaos in between.

Our anniversary trips are about more than just getting away—they’re about reconnecting, recharging, and creating new memories. And over the years, we’ve learned that the right rental can make all the difference.

If you're planning a romantic anniversary getaway in Georgia, especially in the North Georgia mountains, this guide is for you.

Our Anniversary Rental Must-Haves

After many getaways, we’ve fine-tuned our list of essentials. These are the features we always look for when booking a rental:

  • Seclusion – Privacy is key. We want to feel like we’re in our own little world.

  • Game tables – A pool table, air hockey, or shuffleboard keeps things fun and competitive.

  • Board games – For cozy nights in. (More on our favorites below!)

  • Hot tub – Nothing beats a soak under the stars.

  • Outdoor seating with a table – For meals, games, or just enjoying the view.

  • Grill – Because grilled food tastes better in the mountains.

  • King bed – Comfort is non-negotiable.

This Year’s Bonus Perks

This year’s Ellijay GA cabin rental checked every box—and then some. We were treated to:

  • A creek just steps away

  • A hammock for lazy afternoon lounging

  • Multiple fire pits for evening warmth and ambiance

  • Cozy outdoor seating on the deck and throughout the property

As if that weren’t enough, we were greeted by two deer upon arrival—one standing in the creek, the other nearby. It felt like nature’s way of saying, “Welcome.”

Simple Joys in Ellijay

Ellijay has become our go-to destination for these getaways. It’s charming, quiet, and full of hidden gems. One of my favorite stops is Panorama Orchards and Farm Market. If you’re visiting, don’t miss:

  • A jug of apple cider

  • Their famous apple bread—soft, sweet, drizzled with icing, and packed with apple bits (no nuts!)

  • And any of their other many interesting delights.

This is a must-stop for anyone planning a romantic anniversary getaway in Georgia or just passing through the area.

Date Night Done Right

One evening, we had dinner at Ellijay’s Little Italian. We sat outside, enjoying the surprisingly cool May weather and watching the world go by. I ordered the pepperoni calzone—and yes, it had ricotta cheese (a must for me!). The young woman at the register was a total rockstar, juggling two registers with a smile and keeping everything running smoothly.

Our Stay at Skyview Cabin

We stayed at Skyview Cabin, a spacious and serene Ellijay GA cabin rental. Though listed as a 3-bedroom, 3-bath home, it felt more like six bedrooms! It may have once been divided into separate units, but now it’s one expansive retreat. We joked about feeling guilty for not bringing the kids… but quickly reminded ourselves that this time was for us.

The king bed on the main level had a pillow top mattress cover that was life-changing. We both have back issues and usually struggle to sleep in, but this bed was so comfortable we didn’t want to get up. I’ve already added that mattress cover to my shopping list for home!

If you're looking for a Skyview Cabin Ellijay review, this is it: peaceful, spacious, and perfect for couples looking to unwind.

Favorite Board Games from the Trip

We always bring a few games to keep things light and fun. Here were our top picks this year—perfect if you’re looking for the best board games for couples:

Final Thoughts

Whether it’s soaking in the hot tub, playing games, or sipping cider by the creek, this trip was exactly what we needed. We returned home feeling refreshed, reconnected, and already dreaming about next year’s adventure.

Until then, here’s to comfort, connection, and a little quiet in the chaos. 💛
